Massive JibberJobber Announcement

Massive JibberJobber Announcement On Friday I told my JibberJobber LinkedIn Group that I was going to make a massive announcement on the blog today. We were going to do a release (that means, change the software on the server)  last night and I was going to be ecstatic to to share what we did. Alas, we didnt make the release last night but should in the next week or two.  I wasnt excited about postponing this release but we had a good reason to wait. Ill make the announcement anyway, though.  Instead of heres what changed last night Ill tell you what to expect in the next week or two: These werent free before, but they will be soon! First, we are moving most of the Premium features to the free (Regular) level. I think this is going to be a significant boost to JibberJobber and to you (a rising tide raises all ships, right?). For almost seven years we have had a bunch of bells-and-whistles that were Premium features.  We have identified just a handful of things to keep Premium and we are moving the rest to the free side.  The handful of features that will remain PREMIUM  include: Limit of 250 Contacts and 250 Companies on the Regular level* (see footnote below), Email2Log to create Log Entries and Contacts, Importing in bulk (from Outlook, Gmail, etc.), Action Item reminders to email and text/sms Features that will soon be on the free Regular level include: All of the reports, Exporting your data, Merging records from the List Panels, All of the icons under List Panel, including: merging, exporting, the two reports, managing Tags, etc. (very useful features!), Ability to add multiple email addresses and phone numbers on a record, Categories in the Interview Prep area, Features on the Action Item panel on the homepage, including RSS, the Calendar, etc. There are others that moved from Premium to Free but they are less important. There are two reasons for this change (heres a peak into our business and strategy): It is now a lot easier to understand the value proposition of the upgrade. I think before it felt like nickle-and-diming too many little features here and there, and it was just too complex.  Plus, the features we kept as Premium are the features most people upgrade for (not many people said they upgraded because of the features that we are moving to the free side). If you cant upgrade, you will still get significant value out of using JibberJobber. I tell my team that I want more (a) signups, (b) users, and (c) upgrades.  If we make the free level of JibberJobber more useful to you then you are more likely to become a hardcore USER.  I want more of my signups to become users, and I this should have a significant impact on that.  (and, more users will turn into more upgrades use it, love it, get hooked on it, and youll be more okay with paying for it) If you upgraded for a feature that is now free, simply downgrade by clicking on Account and then clicking the button to stop your subscription. Second, we are introducing the Duplicate Finder. This is something Ive wanted for years.  I have almost 6,000 Contacts in my system and I thought how cool would it be if we could push a button, see a list of duplicates, and then easily merge dups? Ill tell you: it is VERY cool! Weve worked hard to make this easy to use and not overburden the server as it sifts through tons of records.  Its taken lots of development, tweaking, testing, and more to get it ready.  I hope you enjoy it and get good use out of it! Ill explain more when this feature is available. And yes, it will be in the free level. More exciting changes are in the works as my programming team is moving forward quickly! * Footnote: If you go from Premium to Regular, and you are over the 250 Contacts limit, what happens? Lets say you import 3,000 Contacts into JibberJobber during your 14 day Premium trial.  That is clearly over the 250 limit on the Regular level. When your account switches to Regular you will still have those 3,000 Contacts in your system.  You can search for them, edit them, associate them to Companies, create Log Entries and Action Items, etc.  YOU DO NOT LOSE THEM. We dont hold your Contacts hostage.  (yes, I giggle inside when I write that line :p) The only thing that will happen is that you wont be able to add anymore, because you are over the limit. At that point you can either upgrade or you can delete all the junk Contacts and get below the 250 limit. On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Brian Tracy How Super-Successful People Get It All Done

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Brian Tracy How Super-Successful People Get It All Done When youve been researchinghow to work smarterfor more than 30 years as productivity expert Brian Tracy has done, youve learned a thing or two about how to get the best out of others and yourself on the job. Thats why in his latest book, Get Smart!: How to Think and Act Like the Most Successful and Highest-Paid People in Every Field, Tracy, Chairman and CEO of Brian Tracy International, stresses that employees and leaders have more control over their productivity than they may believe. While they may complain that theyre overloaded with work, the truth is that theyre responsible for overloadingthemselves. For example, while technology came along as a tool to help workers, instead it has become the thing that workers use to distract themselves. Instead of doing important tasks, theyre entertaining themselves with videos and chatting with colleagues for hours. Instead of completing a project, theyre focused on answering emails that could wait or checking out social media sites, he says, Researchhas shown that every time a worker checks email or goes online, he or she gets a rush of dopamine, he says. They become addicted to the rush and cannot stop. Thats the tragedy of technology. Tracy advises your brain will perform much better if you avoid going online except to check email about twice a day. Turn. It. Off, he stresses. And break the habit of checking it first thing in the morning or youll never turn it off and wont be aware its even happening. Another way to pump up your brain power is to simply sit quietly, he says. Shut off your phone and your computer. You cant think when youre running around. But when you sit quietly, you can start to think of the important things, he says. Of course, there are times its important to interact with colleagues such as when working on a project together, but most teams would benefit if members focused on their most critical tasks and engaged in more slow thinking, he says. Tracy explains that many decisions are made on incomplete information or wrong assumptions. But the(read more here)

Lets Eliminate Employee Probation

Let’s Eliminate Employee Probation Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'5CZvxzxcTS10okMjv7tCIA',sig:'D8xtRac1r_VWqKXVk-dMqMnfovfufBhNU5l2zceOq7s=',w:'507px',h:'338px',items:'172799635',caption: false ,tld:'com',is360: false })}); “Probation” has a couple of meanings, including one from our criminal justice system. Its technical definition is “the release of an offender from detention, subject to a period of good behavior under supervision.” We also use it for newly hired employees, making their first few months feel like a presumption of incompetence until proven otherwise. It’s hard to reconcile that thinking with the supposed “honeymoon period” a new employee should be experiencing as he or she learns the ropes under a nurturing and supportive mentor. During a probation period, workers generally don’t have health coverage, can’t take time off, and may be fired for any reason (even in states with laws that prevent at-will employment.) Probationary periods can last as long as six months, and can also be instated for employees who have been promoted to a new role.  Job insecurity as a reward for proving you’re ready for more responsibility. Ira Wolfe, writing for the online HR site ReWork, says “Hiring is a challenging process, but dont take your frustration out on the candidate. By keeping your employees in limbo, youre essentially saying: ‘Our managers suck at hiring, and we have little confidence in our screening and selection, so were going to put you on probation for the next 90 days to cover our butts.’ If youve decided to extend a job offer but have little confidence in the employee, a probation period probably wont save you.” It’s true; moving a new hire from probationary to permanent status could be construed to mean that the company can no longer discharge the employee without good cause.  You may be creating the very situation you’re trying to eliminate. I suspect that the real reason companies cling to probationary periods is to see whether the new hire is going to fit in â€" they want to be able to opt out if they find that the new guy is rubbing people the wrong way. The job insecurity that comes with probation actually makes it harder for workers to master their new roles, especially if they’re not given much training or feedback. They worry about asking “too many” questions. They fear that any small mistake may cost them their job, so they may bluff their way through new assignments or try to cover up their weaknesses. They meekly follow directions, even when they’re not sure it makes sense or they’ve understood what they’re being told. They don’t speak up if someone treats them badly. It’s a recipe for a miserable experience. So what should we do instead? First, make sure managers have the tools they need to make good hires.   In a tight labor market, you’re not always going to find a perfect fit for skills or experience, so you’ll need to focus more on personal qualities like persistence, flexibility and the ability to learn quickly. Next, spend lots more energy and time on the onboarding process. In fact, let’s change the name of this critical time from probation to the onboarding period. During this first few months, we’re not watching you like a hawk waiting for you to slip up. Instead, we’re providing a combination of specific learning goals, training, and mentoring to make sure you succeed. We make sure you hit milestones by certain dates (within two months, for example, you should be able to produce an error-free case file.) We bring you in for weekly check-ins, encouraging you to ask questions and let us know what you’re struggling with. We celebrate new tasks you take on, even when early efforts are less than perfect. We ask for feedback from your managers, your coworkers and your customers so we can help you improve. We tell you what you’re doing right along with what we’d like you to spend more time on. We ask you how you’re feeling. We prove to you that we’re on your team. Your success is our goal â€" and our responsibility. We put the “human” back into Human Resources. Or we do it the way we’ve always done it and wonder why good people are so hard to find and keep.

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Why Youre Not as Influential as You Think

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Why You're Not as Influential as You Think WhenStacey Hankebegins working with leaders to boost their effectiveness, she knows that at least 95% of these people are going to overestimate their influence on others. Hanke, a C-suite mentor and leadership trainer, says that even very smart and experienced people are fairly clueless when it comes to how much clout they really have with others, whether its peers, team members or customers. There are a couple of reasons this happens, she explains. First, they get fake feedback. Everything sounds like good, nice job from everyone. The second is that they base their influence on how they feel about themselves, and thats not influence. Influence is how others see you. Many of them face a jarring reality when Hanke reveals the perception others have of them, but she says she always adds that its possible for anyone to gain moreinfluenceif theyre willing to do the work. Learning to adapt No matter what industry youre in, or your job title, Hanke says its critical you work on increasing your influence if you want to make a sale, talk your bossinto new technologyor make your team more effective. This isnt about changing who you are, but rather figuring(read more here)

8 honest-to-god career lessons we learnt from RuPaul - Debut

8 honest-to-god career lessons we learnt from RuPaul - Debut Reality TV offers escapism and entertainment from the pressure of the real world, and RuPaul’s Drag Race is no exception. Yet with nine series, a handful of Emmy awards and an ever expanding fanbase, this show offers something extra special. Drag queens compete and perform weekly challenges to a panel of celebrity judges in the hopes of being crowned ‘America’s next drag superstar.’ Amongst the glamour and backstage bitching, stories of strife and hardship emerge from the contestants who have often faced prejudice and hardship to simply express who they are. Here’s a reality show with heart and it’s not surprising with RuPaul at the helm. Beyond the sequins and sass, there’s a plethora of advice from an inspirational LGBT icon who’s carved a multifaceted career in showbiz. So grab your glad rags and check out these career tips… Love yourself ‘If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?’ Here’s the mantra which ends every Drag Race episode, and reminds us what it’s all about. Self-love is a phrase which is bandied about a lot, but what does it actually mean? It’s recognising your own value and right to be happy, and taking action to achieve that. Drag culture features undertones of self-empowerment, and the show’s emphasis on the survival stories of its competitors such as enduring cancer, homelessness and prison convictions transfigures the reality show into a narrative about strength. Career lesson: Learn to clap for yourself. Recognise your talents, and understand your weaknesses. Invest in yourself by pursuing opportunities to develop new skills. Forgive yourself when you make mistakes because you inevitably will. Ultimately, no one cares as much about, or will benefit from, your career as much as you do. Dont fear failure ‘And if I fly, or if I fall. Least I can say I gave it all.’ Competition is fierce on RuPaul’s Drag Race; you only have to glimpse the fervour with which contestants fight elimination during the most epic lip sync battles on TV. We should all be inspired by their bold and fearless attitude, and their graciousness in accepting defeat even when it’s unexpected. As RuPaul dismisses a drag queen, asking them to ‘sashay away’, it’s always served with compassion and kindness, and the acknowledgement that failure doesn’t define your self worth. Career lesson: There’s no doubt that rejection is painful, but it’s worth remembering that failure isn’t permanent. It can appear like success happens overnight when we don’t hear the backstory, but this is rarely true. If you switch your mindset to search for the lessons learnt, then every time you fail you’re one step closer to success. And if you never try at all, you fail by default. Success is personal ‘I think success is something between you and yourself. Only you know where youve come from and how far you want to go.’ For many drag queens, success isn’t about reaching the dizzying heights of stardom that RuPaul has scaled. It could be about interacting with loyal fans, finessing a certain style or simply putting one foot in front of another on a floodlit catwalk. Career lesson: Success means different things to different people, and there’s no point comparing your own journey to someone else’s it’s a marathon, not a sprint! We all have different life experiences, circumstances and ambitions. Often the small triumphs and moments of difficulty are just as meaningful as when we finally reach a long-term career goal. Dont take life too seriously ‘Drag says to people: Don’t take yourself or life too seriously. Have fun; enjoy this gift.’ It’s important to know that we’re only here for a little bit of time we should make it a good time, and we should make it matter. Career lesson: Your career matters but so does your life. Don’t neglect family, friends and doing all the little and big things which bring you joy. Know when to recharge ‘I got to recharge my battery and understand what it is I wanted to go out there and do in the first place I guess my battery had gotten weak.’ Through experience, Ru knows the importance of being kind to yourself by looking after your mind and body. Career lesson: Whether it’s job hunting fatigue or you’re pondering an extended holiday, taking time out can actually boost your productivity, motivation and creative flow. Avoid burnout and allow yourself to take breaks. Own your uniqueness ‘Find out what it is you have that makes you unique and special, and cultivate that’ The drag queens are judged on their charisma, nerve, talent and uniqueness… It’s often those who are the most comfortable in their own skin that excel! Career lesson: Find what motivates you and don’t apologise for being your truest self. Own whatever makes you stand out everyone has a unique experience, perspective and set of skills to bring. Nothing lasts forever ‘One of the things that kept me going…was knowing that bad weather always passes over. If you could just wait it out, it will pass.’ It’s likely that we’ll all suffer or struggle at some stage; when speaking to Oprah in 1995, RuPaul talked about experiencing depression in his late twenties as the darkest period of his life. However, he said that he knew if he could only persevere, things would eventually get better. Career lesson: When things are tough, it can be reassuring to recognise that nothing stays the same forever just as the seasons change, so will our circumstances. This counts for the good times too. It’s just as important to appreciate and savour things when life is going well whilst remembering that success is often built on perseverance and tenacity. Remember to laugh ‘Laughing is my number one thing to do on this planet…it’s the most powerful spell you can cast.’ In RuPaul’s 2016 keynote speech at the Life is Beautiful Festival, he spoke about the importance of having an arsenal of tools to arm yourself against a sometimes treacherous life, and how to transform your feelings and thoughts into an energy force field capable of withstanding whatever life should offer you. Growing up as the only boy in his house, his sisters used to tickle him like crazy just to hear him laugh. Laughter is transformative at any moment you can laugh, and change your mind. Career lesson: Go forth and giggle. The ability to laugh is an underestimated resource in overcoming problems (and is stupendously good for your health). If you’re able to laugh about a situation, you immediately eliminate its emotional stranglehold over you. Whatever career conundrum you find yourself in hold on to your sense of humour. It might just be your greatest weapon. Connect with Debut on  Facebook,  Twitter,  and  LinkedIn  for more careers insights.

Efficiency In The Office How To Get It Done

Efficiency In The Office How To Get It Done There are hundreds of different ways that you can run an office and there are a hundred different pieces to the puzzle of the office itself. You’ve got to work out a balance between the supplies that you use and the frequency that you order them, dealing with suppliers and vendors and managing payroll. There are a lot of organizational plates that you will be spinning when you run your own office and while you’re balancing them all, you have to run the office, too. It’s busy, it’s stressful and that’s life for the business entrepreneur. Keeping your office running as smoothly as possible is vital to the success of your company and the continued good use of your office budget. You see, if your business is running smoothly, you are smoothing out the inefficient processes and making your budget healthier all at once. Below, you’ll find some great tips on making your office efficient and streamlined. Be Organized. It takes time as a new business to get organised, but it’s something that you are more than able to do. Make sure that you take the time to get everything into order quickly when you move into your office, so that you can cut out the time it would take searching for pieces of equipment. You can avoid clutter this way, and you should ensure that your employees know all the ways to keep things organised, too. Self-Sufficiency. Where you can, get your staff involved in being as self-sufficient as possible. You have to manage the office but that doesn’t mean micromanaging your people. Everyone should be picking up after themselves where possible and you should be overseeing this, not making it your priority to clean. Go Green. Reducing waste in your office is far easier when you use companies like www.papersave.com to convert your paper documents into an online management system. The less paper you use, the less money you spend on stationery and the less time that you spend trying to manage folders and files. Not only are you saving money you’re saving the environment, and that is nobility for you! Be Positive. Office management isn’t easy, even when you have experience at it. You can bring on an entirely new person to manage your office for you if you aren’t confident in your abilities to do so yourself, but more than anything, you need to remain positive. Positivity breeds excitement and motivation instead of stress and tension. Automate. A great way to streamline your processes is to learn how to automate all your functions. Email alerts, social media posts and recurring supply orders for your products are all going to be far easier to manage when the computer is doing it for you. Don’t waste your time with these processes if you don’t have to; you have a profit to make. There’s nothing like having an office that is running smoothly and falling into place. It makes your business feel good, and when your business is booming, so are you.
